For my first year of english i was placed into a program called the Stretch Program, and i can truly say that i am happy with being placed into this program. The stretch program is a program that stretches ENG 101 over two semesters instead of cram packed into one semester. It helps the student that do not have a lot of experience with college level writing and helps students give them more time to learn to write at a college level. This program has helped a lot of students who have struggles with writing and students who do not think that they will be able to make it. This program has had a lot of success so fat and has gotten a lot of students to stay because of what they have learned. I know It has helped me learn a lot about writing and has helped me to achieve a lot that i would not have thought i could in writing. Writing used to be my least favorite subject in school, i despised it a lot and did not like to write any paper or have to write anything longer then a page. Coming into my first day of my english class we got our syllabus and i read that sac project had to be 5-7 pages doubled spaced, in my head i freaked out and was like "How in the heck am i going to be able to write 5-7 pages when i have the hardest time in the world to write 2 pages". With the help of my professor Dr. Bernstein i achieved those 5-7 pages and sometimes even more then what was needed. She taught me a lot with my writing and helped me to evolve my writing to be the best that i have ever scene. She helped me to enjoy writing, mainly because she gave us a wide margin of topics we could choose from as long as we followed the details and guidelines of the projects. It made more enjoyable because not every paper was the same, each and every person had their own story to tell and it made it interesting on how they felt about a certain thing or what they thought about that thing.
I designed a T-shirt for this class, and within this T-shirt it tells about the stretch program. Within the T-shirt there are three things, one being the word S-T-R-E-T-C-H that starts from the right shoulder and curves down the the left side of the stomach. This it to tell what the class is in a way to show that the course its stretched out over time, that is why there are dashes in-between the letters. Second is a picture of a man pushing a rock up a mountain. This is the story of Sysiphis, he had the stubble of having to push a boulder up a mountain everyday because he was punished by the gods, and as he reached the top of the mountain the boulder would roll back down the other side and he would have to do it over and over again and the only relaxed felling of the day he gets is the time he spends walking down the mountain. This picture caught my eye and helped me to explain exactly how i wanted to describe the program in a picture. This showing that each day is a struggle and each project has their own struggles within it, and the only relaxed feeling we get is the moment when we are finished with the project or situation that has happened. It may not be pushing a boulder up a mountain day after day but each and every person has a struggle in life and the story of sysiphus helps explain this in a picture. The third thing that is on the shirt is the quote on the back, "One does not discover the absurd without attempting to write a manual of happiness" -Albery Camus. I found this quote interesting because in my head it is true. A person cannot discover the world without writing or telling about it to others. That creates a form of happiness in ones mind telling about the stories and adventures that they went on.
